Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Imposter Game Generator (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects when you use impostergamegenerator.net, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the website you agree to this policy.
1. The short version
- There are no accounts, logins or sign-ups.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Pass-and-play games run in your browser, and player names stay on your device.
- Online rooms connect players directly, with help from third-party services described below.
- At the time of writing, we do not use advertising or analytics tools.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
The game asks only for display names. In pass-and-play, names stay in your browser. In online rooms, your name, votes, clues and chat messages are sent to the other players in your room. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our web host and any content delivery network may log technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested and the time of the request. We use this only to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the website.
Browser storage
The game saves a short list of recently used words in your browser’s local storage, so the same word does not return too soon. It holds no personal information. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings. We do not set cookies ourselves.
3. How we use information
- To run the game, including pass-and-play and online rooms.
- To keep the website secure and fix technical problems.
- To answer your messages and improve the game.
- To meet legal obligations.
4. Online rooms and other players
Online rooms use peer-to-peer connections. This means that other players in a room, including the host, can receive technical information such as your IP address, which is a normal part of how these connections work. The host’s browser relays game data and chat messages between players. We do not store gameplay data or chat messages on our servers. Please do not share personal information in names or chat, and only play with people you trust.
5. Third-party services
We rely on the following services, each of which has its own privacy policy:
- PeerJS: its public broker helps players find each other, and its library is loaded from the cdnjs content delivery network. Connection helper servers (STUN or TURN) may also be used. These services can see technical data such as IP addresses and room identifiers.
- Wikipedia and Wikimedia: when “Show pictures” is on, the game searches for a picture of the secret word. That request includes the word and your IP address.
- Our hosting provider and any CDN: these deliver the website and may keep server logs.
Third parties may process data in countries other than your own.
6. Cookies, analytics and advertising
We do not currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. If we add them in the future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
7. Children’s privacy
The website is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. Parents and guardians should supervise younger players, especially in online rooms.
8. Data retention
We do not keep gameplay data. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period. We keep emails for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of the conversation.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We hold very little personal data, but if you want to make a request, email imp.contact.game@gmail.com. We do not sell personal information.
10. Security
We use HTTPS and take reasonable steps to protect the website. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the updated policy.
